The Concept of Hangovers
Picture this - Its Sunday funday, and you and your crew decide that you are going to find the bottom of the bottomless mimosas at brunch. Things are lit!! You text the person you like " are you up??? " at 2 in the afternoon on a Sunday! You leave brunch ( which is probably now dinner time if you fully committed ) singing " SUNDAY, FUNDAY, WHO CARES ABOUT MONDAYYYY." Things got a little cray on your Sunday funday and now its Monday, and you have a hangover at work. Sound familiar? If it does, congradu- fucking- lations !! You are living your best life possible. But you probz don't feel like that with your hangover. But don't worry- I got you.
By now you are probably reading this, and you are like " kay crazy girl, how does my hangover connect to ergonomics?" and that is a valid question. Ergonomics is usually coupled with health and wellness programs. Nowww do we see where I am going with this?!? You can't live your best ergonomic life if you don't feel well. So, I have created and tested ( seriously) some tips on how to survive Monday hangovers in the office with the help of ergonomics... You're welcome.
* before I continue, let me state the obvious and say: if you can call off DO IT.
1. Drink water!! WATER IS EVERYTHING. During a hangover, it is essential to stay hydrated because hangovers are caused by dehydration ( btw, if you can drink water while you're drinking alcohol it will help prevent hangovers #protip). Water also increases the lubrication of joints and helps prevent arthritis and back pain. And it gives your muscles an energy boost which you need right now because hangovers also cause muscle aches.
2. I know you want to put your head down on your desk and think about all the bad life decisions that you've made, but don't! Leaning over your desk reduces the amount of oxygen getting to your vital organs. By reducing oxygen it will make you sleepy. Stand up if you can or sit up straight, it will help reduce fatigue.
3. Turn down the brightness on your screens - monitors and cell phones. If you can, reduce the brightness in your office as well. Light sensitivity is a typical syptom of hangovers.
4. If you work in a loud workspace (like an open office layout) find a quiet space to work because loud noises are the worst during hangovers. Try a conference room.
5. DO NOT TAKE TYLENOL - I know #lol I just lost you right there. Studies show that mixing Tylenol aka acetaminophen with alcohol is reallly bad for your liver, LIKE REALLY BAD. Use an anti-inflammatory instead, like Ibuprofen.
