The Concept of Cold Showers

Sometimes, the universe humbles me and reminds me that I should not be doing everything I see on Tv. While rewatching the Goop Lap I had the brilliant idea that I should try a cold shower for the health and wellness benefits. Turns out showers are FREAKING FRIGID. Personally, cold showers are something I need to ease into before I officially add them to my wellness toolbox. But, if it is something you are interested in, I encourage you to jump in ( literally … ). Here is a list of potential benefits of taking cold showers:

  1. Improved circulation: Cold water causes your blood vessels to constrict, which helps to improve blood flow throughout your body.

  2. Reduced muscle soreness: Cold water can help to reduce muscle soreness and inflammation, especially after exercise.

  3. Increased alertness and energy: The shock of cold water can increase your heart rate and breathing, leaving you feeling more alert and energized.

  4. Improved immune function: Cold water has been shown to stimulate the production of white blood cells, which can help to boost your immune system.

  5. Healthier skin and hair: Cold water can help tighten your pores and prevent dirt and oil from clogging them, leading to clearer skin. It can also make your hair shinier and less prone to breakage.

  6. Reduced stress and anxiety: Cold showers have been shown to reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which can help to lower overall stress and anxiety levels.

While cold showers may offer some health benefits, they may not be suitable for everyone ( LIKE ME). People with certain medical conditions should talk to their doctor before trying cold showers.
