The Concept of Sound Healing

“ You mean all I needed to do was put a metal bowl on my chest and hit it a couple of times for my anxiety to go away?” Those were my exact words when I first experienced the true power of singing bowls. It is no secret that I have struggled with anxiety and I have constantly looked for healthy ways to cope with it. When I first discovered singing bowls and acoustical massage I was speechless. BECAUSE WHY DIDN’T ANYBODY TELL ME ALL I NEEDED WAS A BOWL ON MY CHEST?!? It was really so simple. All the chatter in my brain was silenced, I felt lighter, and my chest felt open. To me, It was the perfect fix and exactly what I never knew to search for.

So I spent days learning about singing bowls in Bali and here is what I learned about them:

** The full story of my discovery can be heard on my podcast “Concept Well-being ~ The concept of Bali PT 1-3”

Stress reduction: The soothing and melodic sounds produced by singing bowls can help to induce a state of calmness and relaxation. Listening to these sounds can activate the body's relaxation response, reducing stress hormones like cortisol and promoting a sense of tranquility.

** My favorite **Vibrational therapy: The vibrations produced by singing bowls are thought to have a therapeutic effect on the body. It is believed that these vibrations can penetrate deep into the body's tissues, promoting relaxation and releasing tension, which can be especially beneficial for anxiety-related muscle tension.

Mindfulness and meditation: Singing bowls are often used in mindfulness practices and meditation. Focusing on the sound and vibrations of the bowl can help redirect your attention away from anxious thoughts, allowing you to be fully present in the moment and create a sense of inner peace.

Deep breathing: When playing a singing bowl, it is common to take slow and deep breaths to synchronize with the sound and vibrations. Deep breathing has been shown to activate the body's parasympathetic nervous system, which helps counteract the "fight or flight" response associated with anxiety.

Energy balancing: In some belief systems, singing bowls are thought to balance the body's energy flow. Anxiety and stress are often associated with imbalances in the body's energy, and using singing bowls may help realign these energies, promoting a sense of harmony and well-being.

Emotional release: Engaging with the sounds and vibrations of singing bowls can facilitate emotional release, allowing you to let go of pent-up emotions that may contribute to feelings of anxiety.

Sleep improvement: Anxiety can often disrupt sleep patterns. Listening to the calming sounds of singing bowls before bedtime or during a bedtime routine may help promote better sleep and alleviate anxiety-related sleep disturbances.

** Note: while singing bowls are a great way for me to manage my anxiety they may not be right for everyone. I couple singing bowls with mental health therapy and I have also consulted my doctor. Please do what is right for you.
