The Concept of Tik Tok & Ergonomics

" I'm just going to look at Tik Tok for 5 minutes." 4 HOURS LATER, there I am still scrolling down the For You page. Please raise your hand if you have ever felt personally victimized by Tik Tok because I have. I have fallen down the wormhole of Tik Tok many times. One minute I'm watching Jason Derulo dance in his mansion, and then before I know it, I have stumbled upon Witch Tik Tok, and I am learning how to make a potion. Tik Tok can suck you in for hours. The average user opens the app more than once per day and spends, on average, about 45 minutes per day using Tik Tok. But I am above average, and if you are addicted to Tik Tok like me, you can easily spend more than an hour on Tik Tok. So, I think it is essential to bring you some helpful ergonomic tips from a fellow Tik Tok addict. **Note: Because we #love versatility, you can apply these tips to any social media app you are addicted to.

  1.  Keep your neck in a neutral position. BOOM! This will allow us to continue scrolling through Tik Tok without hurting our necks! So keep your chin up, your neck will thank you for it. If it helps you tie it to something vain - putting your neck down often makes you look like you have a double chin. You're welcome.

  2. When possible, prop your phone up on a surface, do not hold it. The position that we hold our cell phones is often an awkward posture. Awkward posture+ static posture = not good.

  3.  Vary the way the phone is held ( switch hands) and alternate between scrolling with the thumbs and the fingers.

  4. Keep the wrists straight when holding and scrolling.

  5. If you use your phone one-handed ( like a normal person), make sure you can hold the phone securely and still scroll without strain. A pop socket is very helpful in this situation.

  6. TAKE BREAKS!! Every time I see Jason Derulo, I take a break. Stand up and move around! Also, don't forget to take a visual break. Since you are staring at a screen, you can use the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Happy Scrolling!!
